FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
To get comprehensive cycling training results, you will need several sensors and bicycle computers which must be purchased separately from different brands for certain types of bicycles.
The QoolBike dynos-X1 provides everything in one package at an affordable cost; power meter, cadence sensor, speed sensor, bike computer monitors and the QoolBike mobile app to recording and analysing your cycling results.
It is also suitable for any type of bike you have
The QoolBike power meter does not use a torque sensor to calculate cycling power but uses an inertial sensor (IMU) to read changes in the angular acceleration of the crank arm and its effect on rear wheel speed as the basis for calculating cycling power. So, the installation of a speed sensor on the rear wheel hub is absolutely necessary as a pair of power sensors on the crank.
Yes … QoolBike dynos-X1 power meter can be paired with another brand speed sensor with following conditions:
- The speed sensor has Bluetooth 4.x (BLE) connection capability
- The speed sensor must first be synchronized with the dynos-X1 module using the QoolBike application
To record all your detail cycling activities you need to keep QoolBike Apps running on the background
No … You don’t need to mount your smartphone on the bicycle handlebar because there is already a QoolBike dynos-D1 bike computer monitor that will display all the cycling data you need. This will also reduce the risk of damage to the smartphone during cycling.
Yes … QoolBike dynos-X1 power meter can be paired with another brand bike computers with a few notes:
- Not all bike computer can display gear ratio and L/R power balance data
- You cannot use the QoolBike dynos-X1 for cycling training with the power challenger feature
- There is no data analytics during and after cycling in the QoolBike App as the app cannot sync with the bike computer to retrieve your cycling data.
For the current firmware version there are five data generated by QoolBike dynos-X1 ; cycling power, L/R power balance, Gear Ratio, Cadence and Speed.
The QoolBike dynos-X1 power meter module measures the change in angular acceleration for one full cycle of bicycle crank. Each revolution is divided into left and right crank angle acceleration changes (180 degrees each). From this data we can distinguish which torque is generated by the left foot and which torque is generated by the right leg.
For the current firmware version, there is only one measured cycling dynamics data whichis L/R power balance, in the future we hope to add some cycling dynamics parameters when doing a firmware update.
There is a difference of about 1% -2% between the QoolBike dynos-X1 and a power meter that uses a strain gauge sensor. This difference is due to the different measurement methods and sensors used, but the advantage is that the QoolBike dynos-X1 can be used on all types of bicycles and there are no components of your bicycle that must be replaced/removed.
The QoolBike power meter uses real-time cycling activity data via its IMU sensor/accelerometer not using guesstimates methods
Another significant difference between the two is that Strava calculates cycling power after your workout is complete, while the QoolBike power meter calculates it in real time while you are cycling.
Although it does not use a strain gauge to measure the force of the rider’s legs on the pedal/crank, QoolBike power meter’s IMU/accelerometer sensor measures the changes in acceleration/deceleration of crank rotation by 12 samples/rotation which is proportional to the force received by the pedal/crank.
The sensor also measures rear hub rotation and position of the bicycle when it is rolling on the road (horizontal, descending or ascending) as a correction factor when calculating cycling power.
Yes … QoolBike dynos-X1 power meter has firmware update capability through Bluetooth connection with QoolBike Apps
We believe there is still a lot of potential of the QoolBike dynos-X1 that can be developed in the future without having to change the hardware, that’s why we added a firmware update feature
The QoolBike power meter can be installed on all types of bicycles; from road bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes, hybrid bikes, city bikes, folding bikes etc. Don’t forget to enter the appropriate type of bike in the My Bike set-up menu in the QoolBike application.
Yes …you can move QoolBike dynos-X1 set from one bike to another anytime you want, don’t forget to change the active bike setting on the application too
You can keep all your favourite parts of your bicycle, no need to removed or replaced any parts
There is no special tools needed to install QoolBike’s power meter modules, they are installed to the bike with silicone rubber straps.
There are 3 different modules :
- Dynos-X1 power meter module up to 20 hours (rechargeable battery)
- Dynos-D1 bike computer monitor up to 7 hours (rechargeable battery)
- Dynos-SC speed sensor up to 20 hours (CR-1232 lithium button battery)
There is no specific calibration needed but you must fill right information on set-up menu including user data (gender, body weight, age etc) and bicycle data (bike type, tyre diameter, crank arm length etc) on QoolBike Apps
There is no user body weight limit because no sensor has direct contact with bikers but you always aware about bike weight limit capacity itself
